Erica is a classically trained pianist and cellist who has worked as a professional accompanist, string quartet cellist, and pit orchestra musician. She holds a PhD in Musicology from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she studied music history pedagogy, wrote a dissertation about music and international diplomacy, and taught varied courses in the Department of Music. Alison has been teaching privately since 2005. She is a graduate of Music for People’s Musician and Leadership Program (2016). After two years working and playing music in Hawaii, life brought her to Florida, where she completed the Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies (2007) and Masters of Arts (2010) from Florida Atlantic University. While working for 21 years as an architectural designer she played music on the side - jazz, R&B, rock, pop, reggae - with all sorts of groups in all sorts of places in and around North Carolina. Alison is an improvising musician - teaching, performing, and facilitating community music-making. She has served as Director of Music in The United Methodist Church since 2001 and currently serves as Director of Music at Asbury UMC in Durham, NC. Her performances include Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, La Suora Zelatrice in Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Philia in Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
In South Carolina, she performed with the Abbeville Opera House and was musical director for Greenwood Community Theater. While at UNCG, she served as accompanist for vocal studios and participated in productions with Long Leaf Opera. She also attended the Institute of Voice Performance Pedagogy at Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Kimberly earned a Master of Music in Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Music Education from Lander University in Greenwood, SC, where she graduated summa cum laude. Kimberly brings over 20 years of experience as a teacher, performer, accompanist, and choral director. As a music director and educator, she provides students a positive, encouraging environment for musical growth.
